Why “Basically Bean”?

My name is Jeanne Wendland, but I’ve been called Bean my entire life… so much so that I relate to Bean far more than my given name.

ba·si·cal·ly

/ˈbāsik(ə)lē/

  1. in the most essential respects; fundamentally.

Soooo… this is my work. In the most essential fundamental respects, it reflects me, Bean.

I am a self taught artist, maker, and all around creative. I did study fine art for a while in college, but most of my learning the last 20 years has been through trial and error, and just getting in the trenches and getting messy.

I love watching other artists, studying process videos, and taking classes and workshops both in person and online. Beyond that, I spend a minimum of 40 hours a week honing my skills and learning new mediums and techniques.

I’ve learned the value of using high quality supplies, and strive to use only the best so my work can stand the test of time. Whenever possible, I use sustainably sourced, ethically produced materials, preferably bought local. I also forage sticks at my cabin in the forests of Idaho for my macrame.

My work reflects my love of beauty, texture, refinement, nature, colors, whimsical joy, meticulous detail, bold strokes, and humor.
